This past Saturday was the SPF Women’s Pro/Am powerlifting meet in Cincinnati. Competing in the meet was two of our own, Judy Metcalf and Lesley Lintelman. This was Judy’s first full meet as she competed in a bench only meet back in the fall of 2011 and this was Lesley’s first meet altogether. There were quite a few lifters at the meet which was great to see being it was a Women’s only meet. It’s great to see more and more women getting involved in powerlifting and realizing it’s more than ok for women to lift heavy! It was an impressive day to see everything that went down and we are extremely proud of our two ladies. Judy had an amazing day going 9 for 9, hitting every lift. She topped out at 165 on bench, 300 on squat, and 360 on deadlift. Lesley competed in bench only after having a knee injury a couple of months ago and missing out on lower body training. She hit a 120lb. bench on her second attempt so we decided to go big on the final attempt at 145. This lift was missed but it gave some valuable feedback as we know now more of what to work on and where the weak points are. The next meet is this August and we expect both ladies to blow this meet’s numbers out of the water. We are excited to continue the training process the next couple of months and see what kind of progress we can make. Again, we are so proud of them and I hope those women out there reading this can use it as motivation to step out of the cardio/group class box and start lifting heavy weights. Remember, strong is the new skinny.
